Dunn Building Halifax, NS
Owner:
Dalhousie University
Cost:
$2M
Completion:
2013
Originally built in 1960, the Dunn Building is home to Dalhousie University's Physics department, along with part of the Engineering department. DSRA was initially asked to consult on masonry repairs for the exterior of the building in 2000 and again 2002. Ultimately a complete Exterior Envelope Conservation plan was put together in 2008 and led to the major project that included: the rebuilding of the parapets and the west entry stairs; repointing the masonry; installing additional masonry ties and grouting the backup wall; the replacement of all the windows with a new double glazed window that replicated the historic profiles; and the installation of a new barrier free access ramp on the east elevation.
